“Clicker Training” was originally used on marine mammals such as dolphins and whales. A clicker has a very distinct sound that is easy to hear — even under water.

In obedience training, a clicker is also used to mark a behavior that a dog is doing right. When the click is immediately followed by some yummy treats and praise, a dog quickly learns the preferred way to act.
Timing is everything, though:So you have to be quick on your paws (so to speak). Dogs have about a 3-second short-term “learning memory.” So the clicking sound must be made almost instantly on compliance.
Don’t worry. You’ll get the hang of it yourself in no time.
Once a dog learns a behavior, you can eventually phase-out the clicker and treats, and used praise as both a marker and reinforcer.
Happy training!
